From Sept 7- 17, 2009 "Gentry de Paris Revue with Dita Von Teese" will be at the Casino de Paris - the birthplace of La Grande Revue - it's the first Revue in 50 years!
"Miss Gentry de Paris who not only wrote the show, stars in the show and is its creative director is on a mission to revive the Ziegfeld-follies in its purest form - with original song and dance production, a narrative storyline in two acts and 18 tableaux not to mention the lushest of lush costumes!" Dolly Sisters

Who were the Dolly Sisters? "The Dolly Sisters, twins Rosika (Rose) and Jansci (Jenny) Deutsch, were born in 1892 in Hungary and emigrated to the U.S. in 1905. They perfected a single-sex "tandem" dance act - practicing in front of mirrors - under the name of 'The Dolly Sisters' they began earning money in beer halls as early as 1907. Barred for being under age by the NYC stage, they toured the Orpheum circuit until 1909 when they debuted on the Keith vaudville circuit till 1911 when they signed with the Ziegfeld Follies for two seasons.
In addition to making about a half dozen films from 1913 to 1920, they toured the theatres and dance halls of Europe." Wikipedia

A Uke is all I Want

This cool vintage photo came from from Wikipedia (it's a Ziegfeld Follies Girl) via Steve of Finkbuilt Blog . Steve thought that it might spruce up my blog, which it does. Thanks, Steve! Finkbuilt Blog has a review of Mark Frauenfelder's great new book (which I am reading right now) called "Rule the Web" . There is also a section on ukes at Finkbuilt that you might find intriguing. I am finishing up my paint job on a hand-built uke right now. It should be ready for viewing by next week.

Josephine Baker, Muse

Okay, a friend of mine asked me to post more pictures of Ms. Baker and I am happy to comply.

She was the model for many posters and ads of the period. Her black helmet hair and her rubber limbs inspired zillions of wonderful art deco images. For more history and images go here:
