Magnificent Crucifix by Giotto is Restored

The Ognissanti Crucifix, tempera on panel, had been neglected for centuries.

This wooden cross painted in the 1300s has finally been restored to it's original magnificence (from a blackened state). It has now been definitely proven to be the work of the early Italian master Giotto di Bondone himself. Note the beautiful skin tones and the gold and lapis lazuli cross. Would love to go back to Florence to see this. Giotto is one of my favorite artists. Congratulations to the restorers. Read more -Guardian: LINK

Here's my latest drawing, "Distant Storm". I'm working on acid-free Kraft paper with pencil and gouache. I have some group shows in 2011, two in NYC and one in Italy, so I am gearing up to paint again by doing some drawings. (Here's a link to my last drawing.) I am just letting it flow and seeing what comes out.

Ancient Mosaic of Girls in Bikinis (4th Century AD)

I simply love this. Here we have a "bikini girls" mosaic (found by archeological excavation of the ancient Roman villa near Piazza Armerina in Sicily), showing women exercising, running, or receiving the palm of victory and crown (for winning an athletic competition).
