New painting: "The Blue Shed" by Amy Crehore

"The Blue Shed" by Amy Crehore 2014, 12" x 14" oil on linen
(click on photo for better view)

This is a sweet little blue shed in my own yard.
We also have tall laurel hedges and evergreens, cats hanging around on dark cloudy days.
A true northwest scene. I made up the figures.
Thanks for the posting this boingboing !

Neil Rodger, Painter 1941-2013

Here is artist Neil Rodger's artist statement and I wholeheartedly agree:

"I believe that pictures rarely benefit from commentary by the artist. In general I would say that while most good art has been extremely difficult and taxing in the making, it is a prerequisite of great art that this is not evident that it appears effortless or even inevitable."

"Karoo Window II"
He was a great South African artist. His work is extremely soft and gentle.
I just discovered his work today. He died last year.

More progress, painting (Amy Crehore)

Here is more progress on my new painting that features a blue shed.
I am painting the main figure nude and then I will add her garment later.
So many new decisions will be made as I paint this. Only the compositional layout has
been sketched beforehand.

As I paint, I am reminded of of Max Ernst's work "Two Children Are Threatened by a Nightingale" . I just saw it at MOMA in NYC in May and it was one of the first paintings in a museum that
made a strong impression on me as a kid.
I didn't think about it when I started the composition,
but my own work is now conjuring up the image in my mind. Art is funny that way.

Update- painting progress (Amy Crehore)

Working on Arches oil painting paper, sketching out a
composition idea for a new painting on linen. Using oil washes for this.

Good news: my original painting "Rose Quarry" has now sold  to a collector in NYC.
But, I still have prints available and on sale! Here's the LINK
(limited to 40 in the signed edition)

And, my newest painting, "Tomboy's Memory of Winter", July 2014,
has been claimed by a different collector in NYC. LINK
I am thinking about having prints made of this one, too.
