My friends over at Femme Femme Femme just posted my new paintings, so I guess I might as well post them on my blog, too. I also just noticed that Ad Hoc Art gallery has the "5 Identities, 5 Destinations" show up on their website now, so if you want to see a preview of the seven paintings that I will be exhibiting in NYC (along with the work of 4 other fantastic women artists) go to Ad Hoc Art. These 3 paintings are part of that show - which opens Friday, July 25th (7-10pm) and continues through August 24th, 2008 (49 Bogart St, Brooklyn, NY). Contact the gallery if interested. Hope to see you at the opening!
And this is very cool: Ad Hoc Art had a show called "Poets of the Paste" that just closed. You can view that show on the Village Voice website.

I just posted a sneak peek of some new paintings on my website:
New Paintings by Amy Crehore
I've been busy shipping boxes and crates to NYC for the past couple of days.
Also... I want to thank everyone who bought my recent print, "The Creature". It sold out overnight. Lucky numbers 11 and 44 received small drawings from me. "The numerical phrase 4-11-44 has appeared repeatedly in popular music for over a century." P.S. Stay tuned for Tickler Uke #2! I know it's been a long time coming... but it's definitely coming! I also have some great ukulele t-shirts on my website for sale.

Vintage Dummy Fun

This is just about the coolest flickr set I've seen - a wonderful collection of vintage photos and graphic art depicting ventriloquists and their dummies. There are 4 pages of thumbnails.

Dummies on the beach, dummies smoking, whole families of dummies! Simply fascinating stuff. Thanks, Undream!

Hokum Scorchers Perform Papa Charlie Jackson Song

Papa Charlie Jackson painting by Amy Crehore
Lou Reimuller and Amy Crehore in The Hokum Scorchers band.

Listen to The Hokum Scorchers playing a Papa Charlie Jackson song
Click here: "Papa Do Do Do"

This song is from 1929. The Scorchers recorded it in 1995. Lou is playing the guitar banjo and I am playing the washboard. I think I may have blogged this song already...back in January.

I try to switch songs every Sunday nite to a new song and leave it up for a week. Sometimes I forget.

Elsa Mora, Creative Wonder

Elsa Mora Cut Out
Elsa Mora Clothespin Dolls
Elsa Mora Drawing
I was going to blog about Elsa Mora a couple of weeks ago, but I have been busy. Today, when I saw this drawing she posted to flickr, I simply couldn't put it off any longer. I discovered Elsa Mora on the Dinosaurs and Robots blog and I quickly added her as a contact on flickr so that I could stay abreast of her daily creations. She makes beautiful/funny dolls, charming drawings, surreal and complicated cut outs, ceramics and more. She comes from Cuba and she has a wonderful latin folk art/intuitive design sensiblity. Read her blog post about this scissor-brain drawing - "Following Your Heart". You can find links to her flickr and Etsy pages on her blog as well as to her gallery shows. Thanks, Elsa, for keeping your art fun and interesting! And for being so prolific.

Golden Books Exhibit

Art by Mary Blair
Maybe I can go to this when I'm in NYC for my own show at Ad Hoc Art
Via Cartoon Brew, word of a cool new show at New York's Children’s Museum of Manhattan -- “Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Book”. Snip from the show description:
Among the artists who contributed to the series were greats of the European émigré community such as Garth Williams, Feodor Rojankovsky, and Tibor Gergely who had gathered in New York as the situation in Europe worsened during World War II; alumni of the Walt Disney Studios such as Gustaf Tenggren, Martin Provensen, J. P. Miller, and Mary Blair; and American aritsts Leonard Weisgard, Eloise Wilkin, Elizabeth Orton Jones, Richard Scarry, and Hilary Knight.
Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books, through August 28, at CMOM, 212 West 83rd Street, NYC. Image: work from the artist Mary Blair, whose illustrations for Golden Books will be featured in this show. [ Thank you, John Walsh! ]
